The blog has been quiet but the sewing machine has not…..<br />
<br />
I made some very, very, very red blocks:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ6ATKEh5eRYbqhMTPGIr7XRs2b6hV8virdqQLuH7U4j7Dm4CsExfvcNxstSHUukDfEqMfj4lWDyzG2d1c-IfjVkoyEHdoXgIBKocH6TA5E4wfKh0gtkbbJFo2Z5LLLw_Q0zzWVsIICkM/s1600/IMG_0225.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJ6ATKEh5eRYbqhMTPGIr7XRs2b6hV8virdqQLuH7U4j7Dm4CsExfvcNxstSHUukDfEqMfj4lWDyzG2d1c-IfjVkoyEHdoXgIBKocH6TA5E4wfKh0gtkbbJFo2Z5LLLw_Q0zzWVsIICkM/s1600/IMG_0225.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I did some strip piecing and then cut out a bunch of 60 degree triangles that I arrange, then re-arrange, then re-arrange again. Who knew there were so many things you could do with triangles?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Wow, these went together really fast:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7429qvl2QIgWMZAPwOILZ22XCB2O86BFh6_jQy6Wib3Wz-BC1HYnfxtD9mKHK9SMlzM4Xkx5ed7ZBcubQIGuAdfHuP7a-8sR3XWd75PoHiiHGERByuhfBwEHZnwuyKEU8QspArZcpwl4/s1600/IMG_0221.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7429qvl2QIgWMZAPwOILZ22XCB2O86BFh6_jQy6Wib3Wz-BC1HYnfxtD9mKHK9SMlzM4Xkx5ed7ZBcubQIGuAdfHuP7a-8sR3XWd75PoHiiHGERByuhfBwEHZnwuyKEU8QspArZcpwl4/s1600/IMG_0221.JPG" height="640" width="344" /></a></div>
<br />
and a block close-up:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm-63eqqkfF9h_IZx-0rQbUmCv6Dbb5zI4HrFYLhK6MSj0MsDtmuTrgRR6KoHw2ML3AqDsmzebrEHJHkqAsxqHwzkcTU5UxIxWtRIxEcTNaUtqKnWYCj4OShBrfWRXXEKroJ8fHzKy1Zs/s1600/IMG_0223.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhm-63eqqkfF9h_IZx-0rQbUmCv6Dbb5zI4HrFYLhK6MSj0MsDtmuTrgRR6KoHw2ML3AqDsmzebrEHJHkqAsxqHwzkcTU5UxIxWtRIxEcTNaUtqKnWYCj4OShBrfWRXXEKroJ8fHzKy1Zs/s1600/IMG_0223.JPG" height="388" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
I still need to fiddle around with the layout but Sophie & Tucker should have a new car quilt very soon….because a pooch needs somewhere to lounge and recuperate on the drive home from having adventures in the park :-)<br />

I was four block behind so I spent yesterday catching up:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdYagfbL0AewGB55H7h1ncyH3zaMwDqNDCHxyu5ZfS41yNa_XA2VKS5OPpT4UV3Oz6r_1j6jljUG4OtLBX8vCNehkq8iT1PzjhvBKQbSjInxkhBIemIrQ3OxtxE2omFiTQ3WLX0iwwG4A/s1600/IMG_0220.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdYagfbL0AewGB55H7h1ncyH3zaMwDqNDCHxyu5ZfS41yNa_XA2VKS5OPpT4UV3Oz6r_1j6jljUG4OtLBX8vCNehkq8iT1PzjhvBKQbSjInxkhBIemIrQ3OxtxE2omFiTQ3WLX0iwwG4A/s1600/IMG_0220.JPG" height="266" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And even though we have two blocks to go before we're done, I'm calling it right now: that red flower block is my favourite!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I continue to be amazed at the amount of scrappage left over from making these blocks. As always, everything gets sorted by colour so I can put it in my organized scrap bins….or in my case, scrap shoeboxes :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now what to do?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>Camille has a new pattern out called <a href="http://thimbleblossoms.bigcartel.com/product/red-letter-day-pattern-173-pdf-pattern">Red Letter Day</a>. It would look really pretty in Downton Abbey fabrics, don't ya think?</li>
<li>This <a href="http://jomortonquilts.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Woodlands.pdf">Woodlands</a> pinwheel & log cabin free pattern from Jo Morton is gorgeous.</li>
<li>I'm also drooling over Cynthia Lammon's version of a <a href="http://hyacinthquiltdesigns.blogspot.ca/2014/03/kaleidoscope-finished-quilt.html">kaleidoscope quilt</a>.</li>
</ul>
Once again, the possibilities are endless.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br /></div>

The pattern comes from the <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/simply-fat-quarters-book">Simply Fat Quarters</a> book. The great thing about this book is that it gives you four different sizes for each quilt so the crib-size version I made above already had the math done for me! I'm been scouring my stash for just the right backing fabric but I haven't found it yet. The hunt continues this afternoon.</div>

Have a great weekend!!</div>

First quilt top finish of the year, which is also my first BOM finish, and my first sampler quilt finish.<br />

As always, taking pictures of the finished quilt top required my assistants. First, Tucker stretched out on it and determined it would serve as a yoga mat:<br />

I'm in the home stretch for the quilts I want to give as gifts -- sheesh, I better be, it's Dec 15th already! -- and it's starting to feel more like fabric <i>work</i> than fabric <i>play</i> so I took a tiny break and played for awhile with some Anna Maria Horner fabric, just for fun:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
If a quilt made with these fabrics doesn't warm up a cold winter bedroom, I don't know what would. How do you describe her colours? Saturated? According to the definition I could find <a href="http://resources.quiltwoman.com/blockmo.html">here</a> th<span style="background-color: white;">e saturation of a colour is the <b>purity</b> of a colour, and that pure colours are intense. </span><span style="background-color: white;">Yep, that pretty much nails it!</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also have some good news and bad news….</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Bad news is that two of my favourite online fabric sources have gone out of business. Beaver Creek Quilting made the decision awhile ago but Old Country Store dropped a shocker on everyone -- including their staff -- and suddenly shut their doors last week. My heart goes out to the staff at OCS. Losing your job is bad enough when you see it coming. To have it dropped on you a few weeks before Christmas? I can't imagine what they must be feeling.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Good news is that Manitoba is getting a modern quilt guild. It seems to be just a <a href="https://www.facebook.com/manitobamodern.quiltguild.3">Facebook presence</a> right now but maybe we can help them build up some steam. If you're in my area and you're interested, please go check them out.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy Sunday! I will be staying inside today, quite possibly in my pi's all day. Not a hard choice to make when the temperature is -34C. </div>

So I set to work on my Starburst quilt blocks and it turns out that this pattern has a really neat piecing process. The overall block looks like this (sorry about the bad lighting):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMfy2B9UbWoVRgnKmTBn7YuxIhrP_oRBsNqN2-kJkNlQVTqrT7tMP_h_4Xe9g0A-TzJ99pMmmDG8iQGHBT2F2isxvm_ssC5E4GbuVAHcjofnglgw0Z9LUO94vcnhTC-kH09Si-us-jZPs/s1600/IMG_0200.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMfy2B9UbWoVRgnKmTBn7YuxIhrP_oRBsNqN2-kJkNlQVTqrT7tMP_h_4Xe9g0A-TzJ99pMmmDG8iQGHBT2F2isxvm_ssC5E4GbuVAHcjofnglgw0Z9LUO94vcnhTC-kH09Si-us-jZPs/s400/IMG_0200.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I first saw those spiky outside pieces, I thought I would have to cut rectangles and then sew things together on an angle. Wrong!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You actually make half square triangles of a background fabric and a print fabric, then slice your finished square into three strips, rearranging their order:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVsMDaqaQcOz2ga3D36MDOJZu5eqSlRlBXEpptV095fvKRI9TCavyvppsKQCwIjCt9aA-uT8lXs0q2-nH3_98PvmnMbjf2fVbFFxT51NrYWEq_XN20oMkcAMbCoATMcvT9YXGYl2vEuLM/s1600/IMG_0201.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVsMDaqaQcOz2ga3D36MDOJZu5eqSlRlBXEpptV095fvKRI9TCavyvppsKQCwIjCt9aA-uT8lXs0q2-nH3_98PvmnMbjf2fVbFFxT51NrYWEq_XN20oMkcAMbCoATMcvT9YXGYl2vEuLM/s400/IMG_0201.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mentally swap that strip that has the small printed section with the strip that has the large printed section and you'll get a picture in your head of an HST. I wish I could show you the pattern instructions but that would be violating the designer's copyright. Trust me. It's darn cool.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I especially like it because I am not the best presser in the world. If I had pieced those strips the way I originally imagined, my pressing would have been really wonky. By starting with a nice crisp HST, my individual strips held their shape much better.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All the blocks are now done. I just need to add in the sashing, cornerstones and borders. Another really fast, really fun pattern from Margot at The Pattern Basket!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br /></div>

After a MASSIVE fabric reorganisation, I feel much better about my sewing space. I basically unloaded every scrap of fabric I had onto the kitchen island and starting sorting, folding and fondling until I arrived at this:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh092pbgo-DzAjiGM3euVt_PHPBasxlsTjJsU8K1U2aLHGKC5DvoOSktni2GinKsmRC_af61VkiGauQU9dj0Ejd06Hn1pFyuZi4qhEjXbzcpl3YHsX9_9-V9CWmN9OyeE22_LlESZDTwuo/s1600/IMG_0196.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh092pbgo-DzAjiGM3euVt_PHPBasxlsTjJsU8K1U2aLHGKC5DvoOSktni2GinKsmRC_af61VkiGauQU9dj0Ejd06Hn1pFyuZi4qhEjXbzcpl3YHsX9_9-V9CWmN9OyeE22_LlESZDTwuo/s400/IMG_0196.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The fabrics that are stored upright have been folded around plain old manila file folders I bought at Staples. Once you fold the folders in half, they stiffen up enough to support wrapping fabric around them. I bought some of those comic book boards that others in blogland use to wrap their fabric but that was going to turn into an expensive venture. I got a similar result for a fraction of the cost. The upright fabrics are usually 1/2 yard/metre cuts but there are a few 1 yard/metre pieces in there, too.<br />
<br />
The lower half of the shelves where fabric is stored horizontally are cuts of more than one yard/metre. The shelves are inexpensive plastic shelves I picked up at Jysk that literally went together in a snap.<br />
<br />
As you can see from the left hand side of the picture, I still have some piles that need folding but with the bulk of it organised, I feel like I have my own fabric store to shop in!<br />
<br />
Sewing wise, I've started on a two-colour quilt for my bed but there's a long road ahead of me before it will be done. I need something like 80 blocks and I think this represents about 24:<br />

I'm also hoping to squeeze in one more Xmas quilt using a <a href="http://www.thepatternbasket.com/item_140/Starburst-NEW.htm">Pattern Basket</a> pattern and a layer cake:<br />

<br />
And yesterday, I decided to go through my scrap bin and sort everything by colour. I had two piles going. One with traditional fabrics/colours, another with modern fabrics/colours:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf2Hb7AMBmd3PfZWp0flBAlspOg4tN13CnLAx39fWukFLiA6IwOGQic5WMwKX_5hzC6FEUTCM-NRdpC0fQPE1hJupnyJ2luj-3901WNW4FllzuI2YAHaU3j7ue86yS70B_V-nxKZrev1M/s1600/IMG_0189.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf2Hb7AMBmd3PfZWp0flBAlspOg4tN13CnLAx39fWukFLiA6IwOGQic5WMwKX_5hzC6FEUTCM-NRdpC0fQPE1hJupnyJ2luj-3901WNW4FllzuI2YAHaU3j7ue86yS70B_V-nxKZrev1M/s400/IMG_0189.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrT1GZzjANtsilVYnOzuTOIz271ECvCUNu9P8_Gj8Y2F1Q_n3KTR6dYtcSTk8EJrbD3S3e-1ozlfUJKI2GiF4JE17570WNwIUIK_Qvhyqm2MVC2JeydyeJLxHFokAU1cpDo3_HA574wlA/s1600/IMG_0188.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrT1GZzjANtsilVYnOzuTOIz271ECvCUNu9P8_Gj8Y2F1Q_n3KTR6dYtcSTk8EJrbD3S3e-1ozlfUJKI2GiF4JE17570WNwIUIK_Qvhyqm2MVC2JeydyeJLxHFokAU1cpDo3_HA574wlA/s400/IMG_0188.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fig Tree scraps turned into a bit of a head scratcher because they worked in both piles. The traditional pile usually won out :-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Some things I learned as I was sorting:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<ul style="text-align: left;">
<li>I have had a lot of pretty fabric in my life so far</li>
<li>My tastes seem to be split 50/50 between traditional and modern styles. The two sets of piles were stacked to pretty similar heights. Interesting to note that the modern pile had a lot more grey than the traditional pile. Grey really does seem to be the "neutral" in the modern quilting world.</li>
<li>Red seemed to win out as the biggest traditional pile (thanks to French General)</li>
<li>Aqua seemed to win out as the biggest modern pile (with no one designer winning the battle)</li>
<li>I don't seem to be a fan of yellow for some reason. </li>
<li>I am appalled by the lack of purple. I love purple and I've used it so little. Must remedy that a.s.a.p.</li>
</ul>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Jack gave me the cold shoulder all day because I wouldn't let him sleep in the emptied scrap basket:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I've been feeling under the weather the past few days and have been doing nothing that involves moving around too much. In other words, I've been sitting on my butt with my laptop, cruising online fabric shops and blogs of people I admire.<br />
<br />
Admiration kicked into high gear when I read <a href="http://minickandsimpson.blogspot.ca/2013/09/handwork.html">this post</a> on the Minick and Simpson blog regarding handwork.<br />
<br />
I get the same reaction when people learn I quilt. It's like "You do what??" Who does that any more? Who has TIME for that anymore??"<br />
<br />
I have time. I <strong><u>make</u></strong> time. It keeps me sane. It keeps me happy.<br />
<br />
I'm the first to admit that I am a very simple person. My greatest joys in life are my goofy little mutts, a good cup of coffee, a pile of books, something pretty to stitch and a comfortable home. I have very little desire for the "next" thing that a lot of people seem consumed with (next vacation, nicer car, bigger home, etc) and getting there as fast as possible. Life is good right here and right now so why not just take some time to savour it?<br />
<br />
And if that involves a needle in your hand and a pile of fabric in your lap, all the better.<br />
<br />
<br />

I have a lot of things at different points right now. <br />
<br />
Xmas gift number 1 is still a big pile of blocks so those need to be slapped up onto my makeshift design wall and stared at for awhile.<br />
<br />
Xmas gift number 2 needs its border added.<br />
<br />
Xmas gift number 3 is pressed and just needs to sandwiched, basted and quilted:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJh8DrpP-655k63NRO9TFjR6aChgUBDDJejh-h4SFjSqIuVOFcuXzJW2Ab49eidOO52l1-4gjXHklF_SjalQY9rRSY6lTBTrG7LFCvgUK3VrYGZ3PMyhKS15MuWDPS6tAnHtskQqu6ACs/s1600/IMG_0181.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJh8DrpP-655k63NRO9TFjR6aChgUBDDJejh-h4SFjSqIuVOFcuXzJW2Ab49eidOO52l1-4gjXHklF_SjalQY9rRSY6lTBTrG7LFCvgUK3VrYGZ3PMyhKS15MuWDPS6tAnHtskQqu6ACs/s400/IMG_0181.JPG" width="330" /></a></div>
<br />
This is another Scrap Basket pattern by Kim Brackett. Her patterns always turn out so well for me. It might have something to do with the fact that I usually use Barbara Brackman fabrics, who is my absolute favourite "traditional" fabric designer. These fabrics are from her Metropolitan Fair collection. I think that skinny little dark grey border adds just the right touch, don't you?<br />
<br />
I've started to cut out the pieces for my <a href="http://www.thecalicocottagequiltshop.com/item/Due_South_quilt_pattern/8485/c195#.Ug_NsRb3CX0">Due So<span id="goog_397333332"></span><span id="goog_397333333"></span>uth</a> quilt. I'm using <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?sid=45238171524294523&Store_id=499&page_id=23&Item_ID=91547&Parent_Ids=">S'More Love</a> fabric by Julie & Eric Comstock. I think it's got a really cute vintage retro vibe. Almost makes me want to run out and buy an avocado green stove and a harvest gold fridge. Almost.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL1y4HTnC16i5vLos6-30ZCcoyf02vzDz6M9tNZuGvk7EmVpECPIAJoTKWhxIWD0lPQAWGwzsS69vLFaW3ry5uywpOycac-FGNwhapxQHSSpD4AYvolngYbPCFKLpAOs6RMcPK3EfF9gc/s1600/IMG_0180.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL1y4HTnC16i5vLos6-30ZCcoyf02vzDz6M9tNZuGvk7EmVpECPIAJoTKWhxIWD0lPQAWGwzsS69vLFaW3ry5uywpOycac-FGNwhapxQHSSpD4AYvolngYbPCFKLpAOs6RMcPK3EfF9gc/s400/IMG_0180.JPG" width="373" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This pattern has approximately 6.3 million flying geese units.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Okay, okay, it only has 213 flying geese units. But I'm pretty sure after sewing about 50 of them, it's going to start <i>feeling</i> like 6.3 million.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And then this little pile of potential arrived yesterday:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii5TdPw_qRZBYuTOi8bZczMltg8tEGcjjHUtTlGh1jsL5BcRkVQzmK3ZwC1SRKyJT0Z_3szCylxsy8oIb815MBvxIF31M8yGbPoTSxf2K_F_FoKeVrmm4vdphqhc9gQjCnr2xVXtJ1ZYo/s1600/IMG_0179.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEii5TdPw_qRZBYuTOi8bZczMltg8tEGcjjHUtTlGh1jsL5BcRkVQzmK3ZwC1SRKyJT0Z_3szCylxsy8oIb815MBvxIF31M8yGbPoTSxf2K_F_FoKeVrmm4vdphqhc9gQjCnr2xVXtJ1ZYo/s400/IMG_0179.JPG" width="182" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I fell in love with the upcoming <a href="http://www.fatquartershop.com/store/stores_app/Browse_Item_Details.asp?Shopper_id=6227720942426227&Store_id=499&page_id=23&Item_ID=94001&Parent_Ids=">clamshell quilt kit</a> from Moda but I'm smart enough to realize that a clamshell quilt is WAY BEYOND my skill level right now. I do think, however, that this fabric would look equally lovely in a winding ways quilt. Hockey season is coming up and I need a handwork project while I sit in front of the tv cheering on my Winnipeg Jets. A winding ways quilt might be just the ticket.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've downloaded Season One of "Longmire" to keep me company while I sew this weekend. Poor me, I have to stare at Branch Connolly for hours:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

I am completely done my Winter's Lane quilt now. It's been dominating my blog lately but really, can you blame me....those fabrics are so, so pretty....<br />

It has now entered the crucial quality control testing phase and as soon as The Supervisor is satisfied, I'll be throwing it in the washing machine to get it all wrinkled up and quilty-looking:<br />

Yes, that's exactly what it felt like near the end: a marathon.<br />

I've never quilted anything this heavily before but I think it was worth it. Only the binding left to do (red, of course!):<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pattern is from <a href="http://www.thepatternbasket.com/item_129/Square-Dance-NEW.htm">The Pattern Basket</a>.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The fabric is "Winter's Lane" by Kate & Birdie (Moda fabrics).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The backing is pieced and ready to go:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnoYzYY4bQ24NxUs3OOF4i1AmZEmLz20fu0mkFGK1dbYaZmawLNP8gebAjOhKW-kF72_pM6_lhKT2qoUsA4Ydj9cspWemgmsSxuj5rUSyvCRlfqDOkJuv6hzQTkdsT3ryFS2hToQcuns0/s1600/IMG_0162.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnoYzYY4bQ24NxUs3OOF4i1AmZEmLz20fu0mkFGK1dbYaZmawLNP8gebAjOhKW-kF72_pM6_lhKT2qoUsA4Ydj9cspWemgmsSxuj5rUSyvCRlfqDOkJuv6hzQTkdsT3ryFS2hToQcuns0/s400/IMG_0162.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And because I seem to be perpetually infected with the You-Might-As-Well virus when it comes to fabric shopping, a few other things jumped into my cart when I ordered the backing fabric. These are from the "Baby Jane" collection by Cosmo Cricket:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I know I need to go into work tomorrow (despite it being Canada Day long weekend) so I intend to take full advantage of today: quilt, watch NHL draft, afternoon snooze....not necessarily in that order!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Have a great weekend!!</div>

I got to sleep in to 8:45 and TUCKER DIDN'T GET UP UNTIL AFTER ME!<br />

I am not a morning person.<br />
<br />
My dog doesn't care.<br />
<br />
These are the two things that were confirmed for me at 6:15 a.m. this morning.<br />
<br />
A young couple moved in next door to me. I know this because they have a German Shepherd and Tucker makes sure that I know about his comings and goings every time he leaves the house.<br />
<br />
Every time. Even if it's at 6:15 on a Sunday morning when "Mom" is trying to sleep in. He doesn't understand the big deal. Just go back to sleep later, like he does:<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sorry, buddy, but I can't fall asleep at will like you can. By 8:30, I had a pot of coffee in me and two loads of laundry done. Maybe I should thank him for making me productive and freeing but the rest of my day so we can go to the park earlier and I can get started on binding my quilt?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ask me how I feel about this around 4 p.m. when I run out steam.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I managed to lug that entire quilt through my sewing machine yesterday and it is all quilted and ready to bind:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzZtbHAkVQlCnzA2N0ZLWe-AGU8zqEomA9kA7ElZvogeLSqMdg1INvZifP1jhVaIA-JMY_4331UKoi5h4Rjjk5LZm86PnIdLOXxskKAPZLl671t8YVY8m7VCOQRE4NZXungS4JJaR2VwE/s1600/IMG_0147.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzZtbHAkVQlCnzA2N0ZLWe-AGU8zqEomA9kA7ElZvogeLSqMdg1INvZifP1jhVaIA-JMY_4331UKoi5h4Rjjk5LZm86PnIdLOXxskKAPZLl671t8YVY8m7VCOQRE4NZXungS4JJaR2VwE/s400/IMG_0147.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The quilt pattern is <a href="http://cluckclucksew.bigcartel.com/product/wicker-138-pdf-pattern">Wicker</a> by Cluck Cluck Sew. I have to admit that the photo on the pattern didn't really do much for me but when she posted about it on her blog with additional photos, I loved the look of it. I culled my stash and came up with a pile of fabrics that said "summer" and "vintage" to me. Then I picked a Fig Tree green tonal for the stripes, a nice bright white background and off I went. It went together really quickly with strip piecing and a lot of chain sewing. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the quilting, I did wavy lines that run in the same direction as the stripes. Since the pattern is called Wicker, I thought it would look good to "weave" my quilting. It's a queen size so once it's bound and washed and on the bed, expect pictures of the resident male model showing it off.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You know, the same guy who works morning security detail.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
