my new old quilt

Wandering through the antique shops in Quebec City, I stumbled across a few quilts.  One of them was a black and red -- and heavy! -- log cabin quilt that was completely out of my budget.  Then I found this one, completely within my budget at only $45:

Isn't it cute?

It isn't labelled so I have no idea of the who/when/where that goes along with it.  It is very faded, some of it to the point where the fabric has disappeared into the background (there are quilt blocks in that yellow diagonal row but it's faded to a pink that is almost white).

The block is some hybrid of a snails trail-ish square in square and the person who made it is definitely not the same person who patched it:

It looks like it was hand pieced and it is all hand quilted.  The first photo is of the front, the second photo is of the back:

I have never labelled any of my quilts but after finding this one that has a complete lack of information to go along with it, I will make sure I label my quilts from now on.  Maybe one of mine will be lucky enough to last this long and be this well loved.

Speaking of mine, I have a big pile of blocks done that should be a new quilt top by the end of the weekend:

Have a good weekend!

  2. Wow! Lovely quilt, it has great movement. I'm excited to be visiting Quebec city for the first time at the end of the month. Any good recommendations for antique shops?
